Section 1: History

Record producer Siggy Jackson heard an acetate of the new Jamaican sound at a Jamaican party and was most impressed. There was no real name for this new and unique sound, but most Jamaicans called it Jamaican Blues. Siggy, who in those days ran a small record company in London, created a new label calling it Blue Beat. Blue Beat Records was a part of Emil Shallit's Melodisc label which was formed in London, England in 1947, with strong ties to the West Indies.

The company formed a close working relationship with Prince Buster and released a great many of his productions between 1961 and the labels end in 1967.

Following the winding up of Blue Beat, Melodisc continued to issue Jamaican product on their new FAB label and later on the Prince Buster label.

Section 2: Discography

Blue Beat Records released over 400 7" vinyl singles, two 7" vinyl EPs and twelve LP albums. In the late 1970's six 12" maxi singles was released.
